Stay in a 15th century manor house in Herefordshire

The Woodhouse Farm cottages in Herefordshire have won an award for the Best Self Catering Accommodation in a national tourism awards ceremony.

The cottages, near Ledbury, won a Gold Award in the Enjoy England Excellence in Tourism Awards held at the National Railway Museum in York.

The three converted medieval cottages are in an apple orchard yards from an Area of Outstanding National Beauty.

They are in the grounds of The Woodhouse, a Grade II-listed 15th century hall.

Judges praised the business for its outstanding quality and for raising the standard of self-catering to a new level. Guests can book beauty treatments, and enjoy picnic hampers and locally made gourmet dishes.

Cottages owners Sue and David Furnival were delighted at their win. Sue said: "We are thrilled to promote Herefordshire and the heart of England on a national stage. We've only been going four years and this is very, very good news. When people come to stay, we treat them as guests. The properties are extensions of our own home and we're really pleased we can say that our guests are also our friends."

Brain Summers, chairman of Tourism West Midlands, said: "I congratulate Woodhouse Farm on their success in winning a Gold Award in these prestigious national tourism Oscars. The one key factor that brings both domestic and overseas visitors to the region time and time again is quality, and with regional winners Woodhouse Farm and Goodrich Castle now recognised at a national level, this is a resounding success for the region as a whole, and Herefordshire in particular."
